Women's tennis dominates Salem

HILTON HEAD ISLAND – The Wolves never looked back after taking the lead in doubles to sweep Salem University 9-0.

Newberry set the tone early with a commanding performance in doubles competition. No. 1 Elisa Aguirre and Lucia Davila had an 8-1 decision to give the Wolves the 1-0 advantage. Their performance was followed up by consecutive 8-1 wins from No. 2 Joelle Husle and Rebeca Martinez, and No. 3 Korina Martinez and Morgan Powers.  

The Wolves held the 3-0 lead heading into singles play, one they would not relinquish for the remainder of the match.

No. 1 Amanda Carrillo started off singles action with a two-set match that favored her 6-1, 6-4. The Wolves continued to pick up victories with No. 3 Davila, No. 4 Martinez, and No. 5 Husle sweeping their counterparts 6-0, 6-0.

No. 6 Korina Martinez rounded out the pack with a 6-4, 6-0 decision to close the sweep.

The Wolves will continue their stint in Hilton Head against Ferris Tuesday, March 6.
