NEWBERRY – The Wolves never looked back after taking the lead in doubles to sweep Limestone 9-0.
Newberry set the tone early with a commanding performance in doubles competition. No. 1 Amanda Carrillo and Marta Gomar had an 8-4 decision to give the Wolves the 1-0 advantage. Their performance was followed up by consecutive 8-1 wins from No. 2 Elisa Aguirre and Lucia Davila, and No. 3 Rebeca Martinez and Joelle Husle
The Wolves held the 3-0 lead heading into singles play, one they would not relinquish for the remainder of the match.
No. 1 Carrillo started off singles action with a three-set thriller that favored her in the final two sets (4-6, 7-6, 10-3). The Wolves had a pair of one-set decisions with No. 2 Aguirre and No. 4 Davila securing 8-6 and 8-4 victories, respectively.
Newberry would go on to secure wins across the board with No. 3 Gomar finishing 6-2, 6-2 and No. 5 Martinez sealing a 6-2, 6-4 win. No. 6 Husle gave Newberry their final point of the match with a 6-0, 6-2 decision.
The Wolves will conclude weekend competition on Sunday, February 18 against Columbia College beginning at 2:30 p.m.
