LEXINGTON - The Newberry women's tennis team continued their winning streak, sweeping Columbia College 9-0 on Saturday afternoon.
In doubles action, the Wolves (4-0) won all three sets by a huge margin. At No. 1 doubles Amanda Carrillo and Elisa Aguirre teamed up to shut out their opponents 8-0. Lucia Davila and Rebeca Martinez recorded an 8-2 victory in doubles play, before Marta Gomar and Sophie Moore finished off doubles action with an 8-1 edge over their counterpart.
Newberry was able to dominate singles play, securing all six matches they participated in. The Koalas (2-1) were no competition for Aguirre and Carrillo, as they won their sets 6-2,6-1 and 6-1,6-0. Gomar and Davila kept the winning going, taking down their counterparts 6-0,6-0 and 6-1,6-0.
Martinez kept her competition scoreless, taking the set 6-0,6-0. Moore was the last on the pitch for the Wolves, acquiring the win 6-3,6-4.
The Wolves finish off the preseason undefeated. Newberry returns on Feb. 8 to take on the Bearcats of Lander at 2.pm.
