The Wolves edge Catawba 5-4

ROCK HILL - The Newberry women’s tennis team edged the Indians' of Catawba 5-4 Tuesday afternoon. 

Newberry excelled in doubles actions over the Indians with Elisa Aguirre and Amanda Carrillo sweeping their opponents 8-1. Lucia Davila and Rebeca Martinez dropped their set 7-8. Marta Gomar and Sophie Moore rounded out doubles play with an impressive 8-4 win.

The Wolves battled in singles action, with Martinez breaking a tie to secure the match. Martinez fought to end, taking down her opponent 1-6,6-2,7-6, and 7-5. In No. 2 singles, Gomar was able to down her Indians counterpart 6-2,0-6,6-3. Davila added a win for the Wolves dominating her opponent 6-2,6-0. 

Newberry look forward to continue their success, but will have to wait til Nov. 4 when the Wolves face off against Columbia College.
