7th place finish at NCAA Division II Wrestling Championship


ECAC Wrestler of the Month (January)

The senior had an impressive year for the Wolves, finishing the season 31-9... Had 5-0 record in tech falls, 4-1 record in major decisions, and 5-1 in falls... His fastest time 51 seconds against Josh Copeland of Duke University... Finished the Hokie Open with a 6th place finish... Went 4-0 at the Newberry Duals, including a win over Adam Hedin of top-ranked St. Cloud State... Whitely went 5-0 in conference play.... Was superior at the Region Duals at Belmont Abbey, taking on multiple ranked opponents... Advanced to the NCAA Division II Wrestling Championships in Cedar Rapids, after going 3-1 on the day... His sole loss came to top-ranked Airk Furseth of Wisconsin-Parkside... Finished 2nd at the Midwest Regionals... Earned All-American status... Finished 7th at the NCAA Championships...

At Wheeling Jesuit, Whitely was the Cardinals’ 1st NCAA DII national qualifier in program history with his Super Region I runner-up finish … WJU 1st back-to-back national qualifier ... his 51 career wins ranks 4th in WJU history ... holds 3rd best win percentage of .718 (51-20) ... has 2nd most tech falls (9) and 3rd highest major decisions (8) in the Cardinals record books.
