NEWBERRY - The Newberry women's lacrosse team (5-8) fell to the Bees of Savannah College Art and Design (7-1) by a final of 20-7 at Setzler Field on Friday afternoon.

 

Newberry hung with the No. 1 ranked team in the NAIA for the majority of the first period until the Bees swarmed with three goals in less than a minute to take a 12-4 lead heading into the half. SCAD Savannah has been ranked No. 1 in the NAIA Women's Lacrosse Coaches' Top 10 Poll for five straight weeks.

 

Senior Maddie Campbell led the Wolves with four goals giving the Hilton Head, S.C. native 23 goals on the season, tying for 11th in the South Atlantic Conference. 

 

Naomi Killian added two goals on the day for a total of 17 goals so far in her sophomore campaign. Rachel Dillon registered her 40th goal of the season in the loss. 

 

The Bees were led by Drew Dowgiallo and Taylor Vaccaro who scored five and four goals respectively. 

 

Newberry netminder Brandy Bowman recorded five saves to give the nation's leader 151 saves as a sophomore. 

 

The Wolves will return to Setzler field on Sunday, April 2 for a conference matchup with Lenoir-Rhyne. Game time is set for 2:00 p.m.
