NEWBERRY - The Newberry women’s lacrosse team (2-2) fell to the Saint Leo Lions (1-0) by a final of 21-2 at Setzler Field on Saturday afternoon.

The Lions opened the game with six unanswered goals before Newberry junior Kylee Shoop netted her sixth goal of the season at the 8:30 mark of the first period.

Saint Leo would have the 11-1 advantage heading into the break as Lexi Walstead notched three goals in the opening period.

The Lions opened up the second half with 10 unanswered goals before Naomi Killian added a late goal for the Wolves.

After Sophomore goalkeeper Brandy Bowman went relatively untested in a win just a day ago, she was put to the test against a lethal Saint Leo team who uncorked 50 shots on the afternoon.

Despite the loss, Bowman battled in net finishing the game with 18 saves, falling one short of a career-high.

The Wolves will travel to Emmanuel on Tuesday, February 28. Game time is set for 4:00 p.m.
