POOLER, Ga. – Newberry completed its first tournament of the week on Tuesday afternoon, finishing in 12th place at the 2017 Armstrong Pirate Women’s Golf Invitational at the Savannah Quarters Country Club.
Nabila Inak led the Wolves with a 23rd-place finish in 232 strokes, 16 over par. Her third-round 77 was her second-best of the tournament, one off her opening-round effort on Monday, and kept her at 79 strokes or better in all three rounds. She finished strong with two pars and a birdie on her last three holes. Her effort made her tops among the nine South Atlantic Conference golfers in attendance.
Annabelle Dallery landed in 43rd position, two strokes and four positions on the leaderboard ahead of Taylor Lance. Dallery matched her first-round score of 82 to finish at 243, while Lance rebounded from a difficult front nine to shoot even par over the final nine holes to finish at 83 for the day. Johana Lunackova provided the final score for Newberry.
Dallas Baptist, currently Division II’s third-ranked team, blistered the field by 15 strokes at 13 over for the tournament. The Patriots shot seven under as a team during Monday’s second round and fired a two-over 290 on Tuesday. St. Leo jumped from fifth to second with a five-under 283, the second-lowest round of any team at the tournament.
Lincoln Memorial, the only other SAC school in the field, landed eighth.
The Wolves will return to action tomorrow with the first round of the Bulldog Invitational, a 36-hole tournament hosted by Butler University in the Jacksonville area. Newberry will be the only Division II school in the nine-team field.
