Newberry will host Lees-McRae in home opener

NEWBERRY – The Newberry women's basketball team will face Lees-McRae Monday, Nov. 13 in a home opener at 6:00 p.m.. This is the first meeting between these two programs, even though the Bobcats have faced every other South Atlantic Conference team.

RECORDS: Newberry is 1-1 on the young season. Lees-McRae opens its season tonight.

NEWBERRY STORYLINES                                                                

  • Meg Essex notched a double-double against Limestone, and drained 19 points against Belmont Abbey
  • Shelby Britten tied her career high in assists at nine against Belmont Abbey, adding 19 points.
  • Nicola Handreck scored 1,000 career points on Friday, Nov. 10 against Limestone in the first game of the Conference Carolinas-SAC Showdown. She has also put in work behind the arc in the first two games of the season while scoring in double digits.

  • First year under head coach Keith Jennings after four seasons under head coach Michele Williams.
  • 17-woman roster with two seniors; Caitlin Brown and Olivia Unger.
