NEWBERRY—Head women’s basketball coach Sean Page has promoted Joanna Tincher to Assistant Head Coach.

Tincher is entering her fifth season at Newberry after spending four of those as Page's Assistant Coach. She returned for the 2016-2017 season after serving as an assistant at Wofford College for a year. Her previous stint with the Wolves was during the 2012-2015 seasons.

Last year's Wolves concluded their season with an 18-9 record and .667 winning percentage. Newberry secured the fifth spot in the South Atlantic Conference Tournament with a conference record of 14-8.

Tincher will continue to play a vital role in recruiting, scouting and game plan development, overseeing pre- and postseason workouts, while seeing her responsibilities increase. She also assists with matters of compliance and assists with team travel. During her original stretch at Newberry, she coached two All-Americans, two First-Team All-Conference Players, one Second-Team All-Conference Player and one All-Freshman Team player.

Tincher has also coached the U-15 and U-18 teams for Italian professional team Nuoro Lokomotiv while playing on its senior team.

Tincher started her coaching career at the University of Alabama-Huntsville in 2004. She served as an assistant for UAH for three seasons, playing an instrumental role in recruiting, workout development, team clinics, camps and team travel arrangements.

The women’s basketball team will start their season off in Nov. 10 during the Conference Carolinas—SAC Showdown hosted by Belmont Abbey.
