Natalie Willis had a banner day at the plate, going 4-for-4 with two runs scored. Mallory Gerndt collected two RBIs and Rachel Marion went 2-for-4 with an RBI.

Newberry got on the board quickly. Haley Simonds slapped a single into right field that scored Willis, giving the Wolves a 1-0 lead in the first inning.

The contest was scoreless until the fifth. USC Aiken tied the game at 1-1 in the top half of the frame. The Wolves answered as Marion hit a single into left field to score Willis once again, giving Newberry a 2-1 lead.

The Pacers scored five runs on two hits in the top of the top of the seven to grab a 6-2 advantage. Newberry attempted a comeback, as they brought the game-winning run to the plate in the bottom of the frame.

Gerndt singled to center, bringing home Hailey Drawe and Kendall Tipton, cutting the USC Aiken lead in half.

The Pacers shutdown Newberry’s rally for the 6-4 win. Game two was canceled due to rain.

Elkins went 3-for-4 at the plate with a run scored and two RBIs. She also earned the win, tossing a complete game. Devon Morrison was dealt the loss after pitching 6.2 innings and striking out seven.
