A former MLB draftee out of high school and son of a Cy Young winner, Drew Saberhagen joins the Newberry Wolves for the 2012 season.

Saberhagen played his college career at Pepperdine and Western Carolina. As a freshman at Pepperdine in 2005 he made his college debut as a reliever.

At Western, Saberhagen was an all-SoCon first teamer in 2007 as a sophomore after leading the league in ERA at 2.87 and finishing fourth in the league with 4 wins.

Following his collegiate career, Saberhagen played and coached the Alexandria Beetles of the Northwoods League, where he will be the head coach in the 2012 season.

Saberhagen was drafted in the 38th round of the 2004 MLB Draft by the Oakland A's out of Calabasas (Calif.) HS. He is the son of 1985 and 1989 AL Cy Young winner Bret Saberhagen.
