Bennett Swygert was promoted to offensive coordinator in the spring of 2013.
Swygert was the Wolves' running backs coach in 2011 and 2012. In 2011, he coached John Gadson to a first team all-SAC season.
Swygert came to Newberry after serving as the quarterbacks coach at Fort Dorchester HS in North Charleston, since January 2007.
At Fort Dorchester, the team was conference co-champions in 2010 and Swygert coached a Rivals Top 100 quarterback. He also coached a North/South all-star quarterback in 2008. Swygert was on the Summerville HS state championship team in 1998 and was an all-state, All-American and Shrine Bowl quarterback in 2000.
He was the starting quarterback at Western Carolina in 2004 and 2006 and was named to the Lowcountry all-decade team by the Charleston Post and Courier in 2009. Swygert is the son of 2012 Newberry Athletic Hall of Fame inductee and current defensive volunteer assistant Dennis Swygert.
