John Lesaine enters his second year as the assistant women’s basketball coach after helping the Wolves to a 21-9 overall finish and a berth in the NCAA tournament in 2009-10.
In addition to the core coaching responsibilities involved with the position, Lesaine is in charge of recruiting, strength and conditioning and film exchange. He also assists in ensuring his players’ success in the classroom.
Lesaine graduated from Newberry College and is excited to return to campus. “I’m eager to return to my alma mater and be a part of the community again,” Lesaine stated. “I’m confident my experience and familiarity with the conference and the region can be a great asset to this program.” Lesaine graduated in 2007 and received a bachelor’s degree in Sport Management.
Lesaine returned to Newberry after spending two years at Valdosta State as their graduate assistant for women’s basketball. In that role, Lesaine coordinated film exchange, team travel and academics. Lesaine helped the team achieve a national tournament berth in both the 2007-08 and 2008-09 seasons. He received his master’s degree from Valdosta State in Higher Education Leadership.
“I’m thrilled to be a part of the program and work alongside Coach Page,” said Lesaine. “I know that I will be able to learn a great deal from him and his system. This is a great opportunity to improve the program and become a better coach.”
