Columbia, S.C.—The Wolves men’s and women’s cross country teams finished second and third respectively among the teams competing in the Palmetto State Festival (5k). The meet was hosted by Columbia International University home to the CIU Rams.
The men’s team finished second behind Methodist University, with all six runners scoring for Newberry. Quinn Wilson led the way for the Wolves, coming in sixth with a time of 17:41.53. Wilson was closely followed by Jorge Hernandez (17:48.12) and Caleb Bouwkamp (17:49.40) at ninth and tenth place respectively.
The women finished third behind Methodist University and Bob Jones University. They were led by veteran Hayden Francis who came in fourth with a time of 21:31.49.
Rounding out the rest of the scorers for Newberry were Diana Gutierrez in 14th place at 23:45.59, Claudia Cannon in 16th place at 23:50.13, Alex Zimmer in 17th place at 23:50.35, and Michelle Ling in 20th place at 24:02.79.
The next meet is the Lenoir-Rhyne Invitational hosted by Lenoir-Rhyne University Friday, Sept. 8 at Southside Park in Newton, N.C.
