ROCK HILL - The Newberry College men’s and women’s cross country teams are predicted to finish 12th in the annual preseason coaches’ poll, which was released Wednesday.

The men’s team earned 12 points in the poll and the women’s team earned 11 points.

The men are led by senior Charlie Cook, who was the top finisher for Newberry in the 2015 SAC Championship. He had a time of 27:53.3 over the eight-kilometer course. Three other senior runners will return to run for the Wolves this season. Taylor Dennard, Seth Howe and Connor Roudabush will look to lead a group of eight newcomers to the roster. Dennard’s best time last season was 31:38.3 at the SAC Championship, while Howe’s best time was a 29:21.3 at the Queens XC Challenge. Roudabush posted his best time of 33:29.7 at the 32nd Winthrop/Adidas XC Invitational.

Makaylyn Higgins is the lone senior on the women’s team this season. Higgins posted her best time at the SAC Championship during the 2015 season with a time of 23:27.9 over the five-kilometer course. She will look to mentor two incoming freshman, Brittani Barratt and Emily Shuler.

The Wolves kick off the season on Sept. 3 at the Carolina Challenge hosted by the University of South Carolina at Columbia's Sandhill Research and Education Center. Newberry is slated to run in five regular season events before the SAC Championships at the same location on Oct. 22.
