Charlie Cook leads Wolves at Palmetto State XC Festival with fifth place finish

COLUMBIA - The Newberry College cross country squads started the 2015 season Saturday at the Palmetto State Cross Country Festival hosted by Columbia International University. The men's squad finished in sixth place, with the women finishing eighth.

MEN'S RACE
Charlie Cook finished in fifth place on the three-mile course with a time of 18:05, notching one of the top Newberry men's finishes in the last few years.

Caleb Bouwkamp finished in 15th place in his first collegiate race at 18:39, followed by Robert Stafford at 19:41 for 31st place. Seth Howe and Taylor Dennard were back-to-back in 42nd and 43rd to round out the team scoring.

WOMEN'S RACE
The Newberry women were led by freshman Hayden Francis, who finished in 27th place at 25:54, with Katy Crout coming in 32nd at 26:26.

Danielle Cruz was the 33rd place finisher at 26:30, followed by Rebecca Burkhardt  in 42nd and Makaylyn Higgins in 44th to cap the team scores.

The Wolves are next in action on September 19, when they travel to Rock Hill for the annual Winthrop Invitational.
