SALISBURY, N.C. – The Newberry Wolves men’s and women’s cross country team wrapped up their seasons on Saturday as they competed in the 2014 SAC Cross Country Championships.
The men and women both finished in 11th place with the men having 252 points and the women had 324. Freshman Charlie Cook was the top finisher for the Wolves for either team as he placed 31st out of a field of 85. He ran a 27:58.89 in the 8k. Andrea Morrell was the top finisher for the women as she placed 75th with a time of 22:43.9.
Other individual finishes for the men’s team included the pair of Nathan Collier and Peter Hackett who finished together in 49st and 50th place while running a 28:57 and a 28:58. Alex Holshoe and Austin Weaver also finished 70th and 71st with times of 30:01 and 30:13. Taylor Dennard rounded out the pack finishing 81st with a time of 33:40.
Right behind Morrell were five other runners all within nine spots for the women’s team. Romina Adum was one spot behind Morrell as she placed 76th with a 22:47. Rebecca Burkhart finished with a time of 23:12 and Danielle Cruz was just behind her with a time 23:17 to finish 78th and 79th. Rebecca Eddy finished in 82nd with a time of 23:32 and Kelley Strong ran a 23:52 for 84th. Makaylyn Higgins finished it off with a time of 24:42 for 89th.
The meet ended the Wolves cross country season and the first season for new head coach Phil Peterson.
