BLACK MOUNTAIN, N.C. - In her second collegiate race, Newberry freshman Kirsten Nottingham finished 13th at the Hyder-McMahill Invitational as the Newberry women placed seventh, while the men also recorded a seventh place finish.
Newberry next runs on September 28 in Mount Pleasant at the Bulldog Invitational.
Nottingham posted a time of 21:04 in her second collegiate race, cutting 55 seconds off her time from the Gamecock Cross Country Invitational No. 1. Nottingham finished 13th in the field of 103, as Newberry finished seventh out of 11 teams. Newberry finished a spot above fellow SAC side Tusculum.
Senior Romina Adum (Guayaquil, Ecuador) was 44th at 23:32, junior Rebecca Eddy (Eugene, Ore.) was 45th at 23:43, junior Kelly Strong (Union, S.C.) was 50th at 24:16 and senior Ariel Strong (Charlotte, N.C.) was 52nd at 24:26.
Sophomore Diana Terrell (Greer, S.C.) finished 63rd at 25:49 and freshman Makaylyn Higgins (Easley, S.C.) was 65th at 26:09, but did not factor into the team scoring.
Junior Nathan Collier (Weatherford, Texas) led the Newberry men to a seventh place finish out of 11 teams, with a 15th place finish. Collier was the top finisher for the Wolves in the 104 man field with a time of 27:45. The Wolves finished ahead of two SAC teams in Carson-Newman and Tusculum.
Sophomore Peter Hackett (Sumter, S.C.) was 38th at 29:24, junior Austin Sorensen (Murrietta, Calif.) was 41s at 29:34, junior Alex Holshoe (Hopkins, Mich.) was 51st at 30:20 and freshman Seth Howe (Simpsonville, S.C.) was 59th at 31:17.
Freshman Conner Roudabush (Goose Creek, S.C.) was 62nd at 31:36 and junior B.J. Young (Jackson, N.J.) finished 64th at 32:16, but did not factor into the team scoring.
