CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The Newberry Wolves cross country squads wrapped up their 2012 regular season schedule in a loaded field with the men finishing 12th and the women finishing 19th at the Queens Cross Country Challenge at McAlpine Park on Friday evening.
The Wolves close out 2012 at the Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Championships in Greeneville, Tenn., next Saturday, October 20.
The Wolves had the fourth-best Division II finish in the field and finished 12th overall out of 21 teams.
Michael Waltrip (Murrieta, Calif.) was the 12th-best Division II finisher and 47th overall with a time of 26:19.6. Nathan Collier (Weatherford, Texas) was 68th overall at 26:46.5, Peter Hackett (Sumter, S.C.) was 110th overall at 28:07.5, Austin Sorensen (Murrieta, Calif.) was 128th at 29:05.1, Alex Holshoe (Hopkins, Mich.) was 129th at 29:06.0 and Termaine Harvey (Homestead, Fla.) was 138th at 29:46.1.
The Wolves finished ahead of three Division II teams in 19th overall out of 25 teams.
Senior Jessie Baldwin (Camden, S.C.) was the fourth-highest Division II finisher in the race, finishing 59th overall at 19:02.7. She was separated from two SAC rivals by less than two seconds.
Rebecca Eddy (Eugene, Ore.) was 141st at 21:41.6, Ariel Strong (Cassatt, S.C.) was 176th at 23:37.6, Kelley Strong (Union, S.C.) was 191st at 24:55.6, Diana Terrell (Greer, S.C.) was 194th at 25:15.4 and Kristen Smith (Mauldin, S.C.) was 214th at 33:09.0
