Newberry XC competes at Eye Opener

SPARTANBURG, S.C. - The Newberry College cross country teams competed in the Eye Opener meet Saturday, with the Newberry men fnishing 16th and the women's team finishing 20th.

Brad House (Lexington, S.C.) was the top finisher on the 8K course for the scarlet and gray men with a time of 30:04 to finish 67th amongst Division II men. Freshman Stephan Bass (Fayetteville, N.C.) came in 76th in Division II, finishing the course in 30:38.

The Newberry women were led by junior Jennifer Johnson (Mt. Pleasant, S.C.), who was 60th in D-II with a time of 22:15 over the 5K women's course. Senior Heather Warren (North Augusta, S.C.) came in 81st in the Division II race at 22:54.

Newberry's runners will continue their hard work to improve upon their times in preparation for next week's pre-regional race at Wingate University. The scarlet and gray will take on the course that is also used for the NCAA regionals on Saturday, Sept. 13.
