Newberry XC opens season at Western Carolina Open

CULLOWHEE, N.C. - The Newberry College cross country teams opened the 2008 season Friday at the Western Carolina Open. Both the men's and women's teams finished in fifth place.

In the women's two-mile race, junior Jennifer Johnson (Mt. Pleasant, S.C.) was Newberry's top finisher in 27th place with a time of 14:02, while senior Heather Warren (North Augusta, S.C.) was not far behind in 29th place at 14:14.

In the men's 5K race, Brad House (Lexington, S.C.) led the way for the scarlet and gray, finishing the course in 18:07 for 20th place. Jack Holden (Burlington, N.C.) finished 26th with a time of 18:29.

The Newberry cross country teams will continue their schedule next weekend in Spartanburg at the Eye Opener Invitational on September 6.
