NEWBERRY, S.C. - Newberry College women's cross country head coach Jamy Bechler announced today the signing of Jennifer Johnson of Mount Pleasant, S.C., to a national letter of intent for the 2006 season.

Johnson is a four-year letterwinner and three-time All-Region product of Wando High School.  Coached by Gwen Branham-Hooffstetter, Johnson was named the team's most valuable runner as a sophomore and senior, and won the school's Warrior Award as a junior.

"We are really looking forward to having Jennifer at Newberry College", Bechler said.  "We have made a commitment to improve the level of our program and Jennifer is just the type of student-athlete we need.  She has a very good personality, she is a good student, and she has experienced a great deal of success as a runner.  We look for her to have a good season next year as she joins some of our returners in pushing each other to succeed."

"Once I visited the campus, I knew I wanted to attend Newberry College," said Johnson. "I really like the school and the running program."
