NEWBERRY - The Newberry College men's and women's track and field teams will kick off their season on Dec. 2 when they participates in the JDL Collegiate Kick-off Classic Open hosted by JDL Fast Track.

Newberry is resurrecting its track program after a lengthy hiatus. The school had previously competed in track for over a decade, primarily in the 1930s, before discontinuing the program following the 1940 season.

Since moving to the NCAA ranks in the early 1990s, Newberry’s only appearance in a track event came in the 2013 Terrier Relays hosted by Wofford in Spartanburg, where a five-member Newberry contingent netted three top-10 finishes in a handful of distance events and the triple jump.

“I’m excited to be a part of this historical moment in our institution’s history. I believe we are going to do great things this season because I have athletes who believe in our coaching staff. Most importantly they believe in their teammate and themselves," said head coach Kimour Bruce.

This will be the first season the SAC will sponsor indoor track and field, giving the Wolves opportunities to compete for conference championships in both the indoor and outdoor seasons.
