NEWBERRY – After falling behind 2-1 after doubles competition, the Wolves rallied to secure four of the six matches in singles play to edge Limestone 5-4.

Newberry earned four consecutive victories to begin singles action with No. 1 Edison Ambarzumjan netting the tight 6-4, 7-6 decision to tie the score 2-2. No. 2 Jose Navarro and No. 3 Nikhil Mannepalli followed it up with two-set wins finishing 7-6, 6-1 and 7-6, 6-4, respectively.

No. 4 Angel Pizarro defeated his Saints counterpart in a three-set nail biter 6-3, 1-6, 6-4 to boost Newberry to a 5-2 advantage.

Limestone would gain victories in the final two singles matches to close the gap 5-4, but it would not be enough as the Wolves would hold the one-point lead.

The Wolves got off to a shaky start in doubles play with Limestone picking up wins in two of the three matchups. No. 2 Mannepalli and Pizarro would be the only victors in doubles with the 8-3 decision.

Newberry will head out on the road to face Erskine on Monday, February 19 at 2:30 p.m.
