HICKORY, N.C. – The Newberry men’s tennis team got back on track against South Atlantic Conference foe Lenoir-Rhyne, winning 7-2 Saturday afternoon at Hickory High School.
Newberry (12-3, 4-1 SAC) swept Lenoir-Rhyne (7-7, 1-4 SAC) in doubles play to start the match. Jordan Monosky and Edison Ambarzumjan won 8-3 at the No. 1 slot, and Nikhil Mannepalli and Angel Pizarro were victorious 9-7 at No. 2. The Wolves capped off doubles play with a 9-8 win by Richard Zeh and Logan Adkins at the No. 3 position.
The Wolves won all of its singles matches in straight sets. Amarzumjan scored a 6-4, 6-3 win at No. 1 singles, while Monosky grabbed a dominating 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 2. Mannepalli won 6-3, 6-4 at No. 3, before Angel Pizzaro gave Newberry its final point with an 8-5 win at No. 4 singles.
Nebwerry will travel to Tennessee next weekend, facing Tusculum (9-4, 4-1 SAC) and Carson-Newman (3-5, 2-2 SAC). The match against the Pioneers is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. on Saturday.
