Newberry Drops First SAC Contest against Queens

CAYCE, S.C. – The Newberry men’s tennis team was defeated by defending South Atlantic Conference Tournament champions Queens University of Charlotte 8-1 Friday afternoon at the Cayce Tennis Center.

Queens (6-1, 4-0 SAC) swept through doubles play against Newberry (11-3, 3-1 SAC). Jordan Monosky and Edison Ambarzumjan lost an 8-5 decision at No. 1, the Wolves’ closest doubles match of the afternoon.

Ambarzumjan earned his tenth win of the season at No. 1 singles, notching Newberry’s only point with a 6-1, 6-0 victory. The Royals swept through the other singles matches in straight sets.

Newberry will be back in action tomorrow against Lenoir-Rhyne (7-6, 1-3 SAC). The match in Hickory, N.C., is scheduled to begin at Noon.
