NEWBERRY - The Wolves were knocked off by the Eagles of Carson-Newman saturday afternoon in tough 5-0 loss.
Carson-Newman's (3-1-1, 1-0-1 SAC) Tom Read, who scored two of the Eagles' goals, put them on the board in the 24th minute on a shot from 35 yards out of a bounce and over the head of the goalkeeper. The Eagles added another goal five minutes later to take a 2-0 lead into the half before extending the lead throughout the second period.
Newberry (1-2-1, 1-1 SAC) was held to five shots and one shot on goal in the contest. Till Neumann recorded three shots on the afternoon, including the Wolves' lone shot on goal.
Carson-Newman continued its success over Newberry, winning for the 22nd time in 23 all-time meetings in a series that dates back to 1995.
"We made a lot of careless errors tonight and they punished us for them; that's what good teams do. We need to regroup and pick ourselves up and get ready for Wednesday against Catawba," stated head coach Bryce Cooper.
The Wolves return to Smith Road Complex on Sept. 20 to face Catawba. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
