NEWBERRY – In a Wednesday afternoon contest, the Newberry Wolves (3-8-1) were edged out by non-conference opponent, the Chowan Hawks (5-4-1), 1-0.

A cross from Lee Wattam in the 58th minute put the ball on the foot of Terell Williamson, as he found the back of the net for his 7th goal of the season.

The eventual game winner was only one of three shots that the Hawks put on goal all afternoon. Chowan finished the game with nine total shots, to Newberry’s 12. Five of the 12 shots from the Wolves’ were on net.

Newberry goalkeeper Brad Dixon was relatively untested, recording two saves. In what has been a stellar season for the sophomore from England, he currently leads the South Atlantic Conference with 85 saves. That is 32 more saves than the next closest goalkeeper in the conference.

The Wolves’ had plenty of chances to grab the lead first, or to even find an equalizer after the Williamson goal in the 58th minute.

Minutes after the Hawks’ goal, Fabrizio Bucco feathered a beautiful ball to Cammy Provan who had a chance from six yards out. The Chowan keeper Carlos Ramirez answered the call, recording one of his five saves in the match.

Davis Bryan led the team with three shots as he created some great chances of his own, but recorded just one shot on frame. Bucco and Dillon Pelton added two shots apiece for Newberry.

The Wolves’ will hit the final stretch of the season as they will travel to Queens, Brevard, and Mars Hill before returning home to face off against Columbia International. Newberry will then wrap-up the regular season at home vs. Lenoir-Rhyne.

Newberry will face off vs. Queens in Charlotte on Saturday, Oct. 15th. Kickoff is slated for 7:30 p.m.
