NEWBERRY- The Newberry College men's soccer team fell to No. 16 Wingate University, 1-0, on Sunday afternoon.

The Bulldogs got on the board just two minutes into the game. Shaun Gadsby shot the ball from 18 yards out rocketing it into the back of the net.

Newberry didn't get a shot off until the 31st minute when Lucas Ferreira looked for the goal but the ball was blocked by a Wingate defender. Ferreira's shot was the only one Newberry took for the first half.

In the second half, Newberry was more offensive taking six shots. In the first minute of the half, Newberry took three shots. Ferreira's shot hit the crossbar before he got his own rebound for another try but it was unfortunately blocked. Cammy Provan then got a touch on the ball to only have his shot blocked.

Play was quiet until 11 minutes later where Davis Bryan headed the ball but the Bulldogs' keeper made the save. With 15 minutes left,  Ferreira took his fourth shot kicking it wide left. Mario Stojkoski made the last attempt for Newberry just 50 seconds before regulation time was over. Stojkoski aimed for the back of the net but the ball was kicked wide right of the goal.

For the game, Brad Dixon made 11 saves in goal while the team took seven shots with one on goal. Ferreira took four of those shots.

The Wolves host Southern Wesleyan on Wednesday, September 30 at 3:30 p.m.
