NEWBERRY – The Newberry men’s soccer team was picked to finish 11th in the South Atlantic Conference when the preseason polls were released today.

The Wolves received 19 points in the standings and were voted above Brevard (16 points) and behind Tusculum (42 points).

Newberry is coming off a season in which they finished 1-16-1 during the regular season with seven of the losses coming by just one goal. The Wolves return a bulk of the team from last season and hope to see a lot of improvement.

Tomas Garcia (Vina del Mar, Chile/Mackay School) has been moved into a new role at forward and led the team in goals during the spring season. Also up top is senior forward Lucas Ferreira (Belo Horizonte, Brazil) who is fully healthy now after missing a few games last season which limited his impact and production.

In the back, Mikey McPeak (Chapel Hill, N.C./Carrboro) is coming off a good freshman campaign which included 14 starts and 1070 minutes played. Bennett Murphy (Hilton Head, S.C./Hilton Head), who stands at 6-foot-3, also adds a lot of size and athleticism to this Wolves roster.
