Jermstad nets fourth goal of season in Wolves 2-1 loss to Eagles
Saturday, October 12, 2013

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. - Freshman Graham Jermstad's fourth goal of the season was a little too late for the Wolves as Newberry saw time expire on a second half comeback against Carson-Newman, with the Eagles topping Newberry 2-1.

Carson-Newman (6-4, 3-3 SAC) took an early lead over Newberry (1-10-1, 1-5-1 SAC) in the eighth minute as Sindre Welo scored off an assist from Nico Noll. The Eagles continued to attack in the first half, but saw the remainder of their chances pushed aside by Newberry's senior goalkeeper Patrick Sweatt (Indian Land, S.C.).

The second period was only open for five minutes until the Eagles saw Welo complete the brace as he put Carson-Newman on top 2-0 in the 50th minute.

Soon after the Eagles scored a second goal, Carson-Newman continued to pepper the Newberry goal, requiring Sweatt to make three saves over the next ten minutes.

The two teams exchanged shots following Carson-Newman's second goal, but the Wolves managed to pull one back in the 72nd minute when senior Joseph Santos (Charleston, S.C.) found Jermstad (Irmo, S.C.) with a through ball, which was cleaned up for Jermstad's fourth goal of the season.

The Wolves continued to push the offense as Newberry looked to even the match, but saw freshman Jalin Butler's (Columbia, S.C.) 86th minute header stopped by Rumwald Le Guevel. Butler's header was Newberry's final shot of the evening as the clock expired on the potential comeback.

Carson-Newman outshot Newberry 16-15, while Newberry placed 13 shots on frame to Carson-Newman's 10 shots on goal. Sweatt notched eight saves during the match, while on the attack senior Brady Francis (Aiken, S.C.) led Newberry with five shots.

Newberry travels to Florence on Wednesday for a 7 p.m. non-conference match against Francis Marion.
