NEWBERRY, S.C. - The Wolves dropped 7-0 decision to the visiting Lenoir-Rhyne Bears in a match that saw senior goalkeeper Joel Johnson record nine saves.
In a match that saw 10 yellow cards shown to the two teams, the Bears (5-7-1, 1-4-0 South Atlantic Conference) took control of the match early as Chibuzo Nwosu scored what was the game winner in the 24th minute when he fired a shot toward Johnson (Sangre Grande, Trinidad & Tobago) from about 12 yards out. A diving save by Johnson stopped the initial attack, but Nwosu followed the rebound and knocked it into the goal from about eight yards.
Lenoir-Rhyne's Sean Rogers recorded a hat trick on the afternoon with a first half header and two second half conversions from the penalty spot. The sixth goal of the match was scored in the 63rd when a ball knocked off a Newberry defender into the goal.
The Wolves (5-7-0, 1-4-0 SAC) managed six shots on the afternoon.
Newberry plays at Saint Andrews on Monday at 4 p.m. and returns home on Saturday October 22 at 11 a.m. against Brevard.
