Wolves travel to Lincoln Memorial for conference opener

NEWBERRY, S.C. - After a 3-2 start to the season in non-conference home matches, the Newberry Wolves and new head coach Barry Slagle are set to open the South Atlantic Conference schedule this Saturday at Lincoln Memorial.

Saturday afternoons match in Harrogate, Tenn. against LMU will be the Wolves first road match of the season after the season opener at Queens was postponed due to inclimate weather.
Newberry has scored ten goals in five matches this season with the goals coming from seven different players. While six Wolves have scored one goal each, freshman Kyle Maitland (Columbia, S.C.) has netted four goals in the early season. Junior Adrian Ochoa (Marietta, Ga.) has one goal on the season and three assists, two of which came in the Wolves most recent match against USC Aiken.

Ochoa's two assists against USC Aiken moved him to No. 13 on the career points list at Newberry College with 24.

In goal Patrick Sweatt (Indian Land, S.C.) has recorded back-to-back clean sheets and has recorded 23 saves thus far. Sweatt is currently tied at No. 5 all-time with former Newberry keeper Will Dieterich with a career goals against average of 2.00. The sophomore keeper is No. 10 on the career saves list with 84 and is No. 5 in career clean sheets with three.

Lincoln Memorial is 1-2-1 with its one victory coming in overtime at Alabama-Huntsville. The most recent match for the Railsplitters ended in a 3-2 overtime loss to Belmont Abbey. Three of LMU's four matches this season have reached at least one overtime period.

Five Railsplitters have notched one goal this season all of which have been unassisted. In goal senior Michael Watkins has made 30 saves and posts a 2.28 goals against average.
The Wolves are 1-6-0 all-time against Lincoln Memorial and have never won a match in Harrogate. The last meeting between the two teams ended in a 2-0 LMU victory in 2010 at Newberry College.
