NEWBERRY - A trio of Wolves scored as the Newberry men's soccer team defeated USC Aiken 3-0 to pick up its third victory of the season.

The Wolves took the lead early when junior Adrian Ochoa (East Point, Ga.) delivered a pass to sophomore Joseph Santos (Charleston , S.C.) who took a quick touch and from 15 yards out hit a shot across the goal mouth that bounced off the inside of the post and found the back of the net. The 4th minute goal from Santos was the first of his collegiate career.

Newberry was forced to withstand the Pacers attack as the first half continued and USCA was able to get off nine shots. Sophomore goalkeeper Patrick Sweatt (Indian Land, S.C.) made four saves in the first half to put Newberry into the second half with a 1-0 lead.

USC Aiken continued its pressure in the second half taking eight shots and outshooting the Wolves 17-8 over the entire match. Sweatt made three second half saves to give him seven on the afternoon.

Newberry notched another goal in the 71st minute when sophomore Stephen Harvey (Kingston, Jamaica) stole an errant pass from the Pacers and beat the keeper from about 25 yards out for his first goal of the season.

After a goalkeeper change by the Pacers, freshman Kyle Maitland (Columbia, S.C.) got into the scoring game himself. In the 87th minute Maitland flicked in a cross from Ochoa for his fourth goal of the season.

Ochoa's two assists move him into sole possession of the No. 13 position in the Newberry record book for career points with 24.

Newberry ravels to Harrogate, Tenn., on Saturday for the conference opener against Lincoln Memorial at 4 p.m. The Wolves next match at home is on September 24 against Lander at 4 p.m.
