NEWBERRY - The Newberry College men's soccer team took on Pfeiffer University for a Wednesday afternoon nonconference matchup but came out on the losing end, 4-1.
Newberry (2-12-2, 1-5-0 SAC) fell behind by two goals in the match and almost closed the gap by halftime, but Pfeiffer (11-3-0, 6-1-0 Conference Carolinas) added two more in the second half to pull away for the win.

Trailing 2-0 in the first half, Marvin Torvic (French Guiana) sent a ball upfield in the 43rd minute that Tornubari Nyonebue (Rivers State, Nigeria) navigated through the Pfeiffer defense into the penalty box. Pfeiffer goalkeeper Alex Moreno challenged Nyonebue and took the ball off of his foot, but Adrian Ochoa (East Point, Ga.) collected the rebound and shot into the open net to pull Newberry within one, 2-1. The teams would enter the halftime break with Pfeiffer ahead, 2-1.
The goal marks the freshman Ochoa's sixth of the year, which leads the team.
Pfeiffer responded with two goals in the second stanza. After Newberry goalkeeper Pedro Velazquez (Newburgh, N.Y.) received a yellow card in the penalty area in the 53rd minute, Pfeiffer's Fahret Salihovic converted the penalty kick to give the Falcons a 3-1 lead.
Pfeiffer followed with another goal with another in the 77th minute. Kash Knight sent in a cross that found Alex Landim, who kicked it in for the goal and what would be the eventual final score, 4-1.
