ORLANDO, Fla. - Newberry retained their lead in the final round of the McDonough Cup to clinch their third tournament win of the fall season on Tuesday. The victory marked the second most in school history, with four tournament wins occurring in 2010-11.

"This team works very hard and we found out what our limits are this semester. That's a great lesson for any team," said head coach Howard Vroon. "A team effort doing just enough."

The Wolves battled with host Rollins for the top spot and ended the day with a third-round score of 302 and a total of 880. Two strokes separated Newberry from Rollins while South Atlantic Conference foe Carson-Newman finished five strokes back. Mount Olive and Wingate rounded out the top five.

Harry Bolton finished even at 72 in the final round to take sole possession of second place. He still managed to end competition under par, one of three players to do so. Bolton tallied four birdies during the final round and notched his third top-five ranking this season.

Spencer Skiff dropped three spots to end the tournament in fourth place, scoring four over par at 76 in the final round. This was Skiff's second top-10 finish this season.

Carlos Leandro and Ben Thompson came in a six-way tie for 27th with a third-round score of 76 and 78, respectively.

Rob Cull rounded out the roster tied for 59th with eight strokes over par for a final round score of 79.

The Wolves struggled to get under par in the third round with everyone's scores coming in at par or higher.

Newberry will get time to rest before resuming competition in the spring.
