Wolves tied third after day one of the South/Southeast Regional

MUSCLE SHOALS, Ala. – ­After day one of Men’s Division II South/Southeast Regional at the Fighting Joe Golf Course at The Shoals Golf Club, the Newberry men’s golf team sits in fourth place with a two-over 290.

 

The Wolves are six shots behind leader Lynn, and four shots behind second place finisher West Florida. Florida Southern is one-stroke ahead of Newberry in the third-place spot.

 

Carlos Leandro shot a team low 69 after the first day, sitting tied for third place overall on the individual leaderboard. The junior out of Aljaraque, Spain birdied three holes on the back nine to finish the day at three-under.


Chandler Blanchet of West Florida is on top of the leaderboards after shooting an opening day 66.

 

Sophomore Harry Bolton was runner-up to Leandro shooting a one-under 71. Bolton double-bogeyed the par five first before battling back to birdie four holes on the day, ending with a tie at 10th overall after 18 holes.

 

Spencer Skiff and Ben Thompson tied with a three-over 75 on the day to round out the top four for Newberry.

 

The Wolves will tee-off day two of the regional at 8:30 EST tomorrow morning.
