GOLDSBORO, N.C. – Newberry, the No. 2 team in the Southeast Region in the latest NCAA rankings, sits in second place, 13 shots behind tournament host Mount Olive, after the first two rounds of The Trojan.

The Wolves were consistent throughout their 36 holes on the course, firing a 10-over 298 in the first round before improving by one stroke in the second to finish the day at 19 over. Newberry has a one-stroke lead on third-place Belmont Abbey and leads fourth-place Brevard by five strokes.

Carlos Leandro led Newberry at one over for the day, shooting a stroke under par in the first round prior to a second-round 74. Leandro is four shots off the pace set by Brevard's Craig Stephen and sits in a two-way tie for fifth.

Luke Atack, playing as an individual, shot a three-over 147 to give Newberry two golfers in the top 10. He rebounded from an opening-round 75 to shoot even par in the second round, one stroke away from matching his season low, to land in ninth.

Spencer Skiff was also even in the second round after a five-over 77 to open Monday's proceedings. He sits in 15th place, one stroke and one position ahead of Harry Bolton. Ben Thompson rounded out the Newberry scorers in 20th position at seven over, while Evan DeGrazia was 54th at 17 over.

Host Mount Olive is leading the tournament after shooting six over after the first two rounds. The Trojans currently have three golfers inside the top six on the individual leaderboard. 

Tournament play concludes with 18 holes Tuesday.
