ETOWAH, N.C. - The Newberry Wolves cut six strokes from their first round score and moved up to a tie for sixth place after the second round of the 2016 South Atlantic Conference Men's Golf Championship on Monday at Etowah Valley CC.
Newberry shot 298 and is tied with Wingate for sixth with a two-round subtotal of 602 (+26). The Wolves are 11 strokes behind co-leaders Carson-Newman and Lenoir-Rhyne (+15).
Fredrik Fossum is in third place on the individual leaderboard after shooting an even par 72 in Monday's round. He sits at 145 (+1) and is two strokes back of the lead. He bogeyed the first three holes, but came back strong and birdied holes Nos. 5, 6, 14 and 18 to finish at even par for the day.
Freshman Harry Bolton shot 1-over par 73 and sits in 10th in the individual standings. He carded an eagle on the 16th hole and birdied Nos. 6, 10 and 18. He was 1-under par on the back nine.
Carlos Leandro is 37th after a second consecutive 77 and has a two-day score of 154 (+10). Evan DeGrazia dropped three strokes from his opening day and is in 39th at 155 (79-76, +11), including an eagle on No. 6. Spencer Skiff is in 51st at 158 (80-78, +14).
The Wolves tee off in groupings with Mars Hill and Coker starting at 8:30 a.m. in an attempt to make a charge for the title.
