Wolves tied for eighth after opening day of SAC Tournament

ETOWAH, N.C. - The Newberry College men's golf team is tied for eighth after the first round of an ultra-competitive South Atlantic Conference Tournament on Sunday at Etowah Valley CC.

Newberry shot 304 (+16) in the first round, but the Wolves are still within striking distance - only nine strokes off the lead shared by Carson-Newman and Lenoir-Rhyne.

Fredrik Fossum is tied for third on the individual leaderboard, shooting a 1-over par 73 Sunday. He carded an eagle three on the 16th hole and birdied holes Nos. 4 and 11.

Harry Bolton is in 14th at 75 (+3) with a birdie on the 14th hole. Second team all-conference honoree Carlos Leandro is in 30th at 77 (+5), but closed strong with birdies on three of the last five holes.

Evan DeGrazia is in 44th at 79 (+7) and Spencer Skiff is 48th at 80 (+8) in an up-and-down round with four birdies.

Newberry will tee off on "moving day" in groupings with Brevard and Wingate, starting at 9:15 a.m. Live scoring is available at https://www.birdiefire.com/tournament/21028/.
