INDIANAPOLIS - On the strength of Tuesday's 39-stroke win at the Mount Olive Invitational, the Newberry College men's golf team has jumped into the NCAA Division II Southeast Region rankings at No. 10, as announced Friday afternoon.
These rankings are the official rankings used for NCAA postseason qualification. A total of 10 teams from the Southeast Region (conference tournament champions from the South Atlantic Conference, Conference Carolinas and the Peach Belt Conference and seven at-large teams) will advance to the South/Southeast Super Regional on May 2-4 at Mission Inn in Howey-in-the-Hills, Fla.
Newberry has previosuly qualified for the Super Regional tournament five times (2006, 2008-11) with two National Tournament berths (2008, 2011). The top five teams from the 20-team South/Southeast Super Regional advance to the national tournament.
The Wolves currently rank 50th in the Division II GolfStat statistical team rankings, but shot their three best rounds of the season in the Mount Olive Invitational.
Newberry's next action comes on April 17-19 at the 2016 South Atlantic Conference Championships at Etowah Valley CC in Etowah, N.C. The Wolves won the Etowah Intercollegiate on that course in October, shooting 584 for two rounds.
