KIAWAH ISLAND - The Newberry Wolves' men's golf team kicked off the 2015-16 season in the opening round of the Kiawah Island Invitational on Monday, shooting a +16 (304) on the opening 18 holes at the Osprey Point GC, sitting in 16th in a tough regional field.

The placement in the team standings is misleading, as the Wolves are just two strokes out of a five-way tie for 11th.

Spencer Skiff (Aiken, S.C.) shot an even par 72 to sit in a tie for 13th place in the individual standings. Luke Atack (Hamilton, Ontario, Canada) shot a +4 (76) and is tied for 45th in a tightly packed field.

Zack Sherman (Newberry, S.C.) is in a tie for 53rd, just one stroke behind Atack at a +5 (77), while Carlos Leandro (Aljaraque, Spain) made his Newberry debut with a +7 (79) to tie for 73rd. Nick Lussier (Barton, Vt.) rounded out the Newberry contingent with a +15 (87).

Newberry will look to vault itself up the leaderboard with the final round of the tournament on Tuesday morning.
