ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – The Newberry College men’s golf team posted a team score of 305 in the final day of competition to finish ninth in the Jay Jennison Memorial tournament.
The Wolves finished 28 strokes behind host Flagler, but only 16 strokes separated them from second place finisher Wingate. South Atlantic Conference foe Queens finished fifth, but only three strokes better than the Wolves.
Senior Ryan Wilkinson was the top finisher for the Wolves, completing the final round with a score of 76 and completing the tournament 4-over par, putting him tied for ninth in the final standings.
Senior Tommy Hurst mounted a massive comeback today, shooting a 1-over par 73. He finished the tournament tied for 25th, moving up 11 slots from Monday. Junior Fredrik Fossum turned in a final 72-hole score of 229 to finish the tournament tied for 30th. Seniors John Paul Ferguson and Nick Lussier concluded the tournament with 72-hole scores of 234.
The Wolves are next in action October 6-7 at the University of North Georgia Fall Invitational.
