Hurst shoots 4-under; Wolves in 12th

KIAWAH ISLAND – Senior Tommy Hurst shot under par in the first tournament of the 2014-15 season as he leads the Wolves to an 8-over par 296 on Monday’s first round of the Kiawah Island Invitational. The Wolves currently sit in 12th place going into Tuesday’s final round.

Hurst shot a 4-under par 68 on the Cougar Point Course in his initial round which has him tied for second place in the individual standings, only one stroke back of the leader Cory Griffin of Armstrong State.  

Sophomore Nick Lussier shot a 2-over par 74 to tie for 42nd place, while senior Ryan Wilkinson is tied for 48th with a 3-over par 75. Freshmen Evan DeGrazie and Spencer Skiff both got their first taste of college action Monday and carded 7-over par 79s to finish tied for 79th on day one.

Erskine and Flagler are in the lead in the team standings after shooting 5-under par on the day in a very tight field. Host USC Aiken sits in second place at 4-under par and Lincoln Memorial holds fourth place at 3-under par. The Wolves are only six strokes out of sixth place, but are only two strokes ahead of Coker and Valdosta State who are currently tied for 13th place.

The tournament will close Tuesday with 18 holes.
