ROCK HILL - Newberry College junior Tommy Hurst has been named second team all-South Atlantic Conference in men's golf, as released by the conference office today.
Hurst (Miami, Fla.) earns his first all-conference honor entering the 2014 Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Championships in Sevierville, Tenn., on Sunday-Tuesday.
Hurst averaged 73.7 strokes per round in the regular season with a pair of top five finishes and three top 10's. His best finish of the season came in the regular season finale, as he finished second at the UNCP/Campbell Oil/Sunoco Classic to teammate Ryan Wilkinson by one stroke with a +2 (218).
He tied for fourth at the Jay Jennison Memorial in October with a -1 (215) and tied for seventh at the Spring Kickoff Intercollegiate with a +2 (215). Hurst currently ranks eighth in school history in career stroke average and is 11th in the books with this year's single season stroke average.
Freshman Richard Mansell (Staffordshire, England) ranked highly in the conference standings in all categories, but was barely ineligible for conference awards. Mansell has played in 10 rounds this season, with the league requiring 12 rounds in the regular season to be considered for honors.
