WALLACE, N.C. - One of the Newberry Wolves' top efforts in the season has the scarlet and gray in the lead of the UNC Pembroke/Campbell Oil/Sunoco Classic by 15 strokes after two rounds at the River Landing Golf Course.
The Wolves have three individuals in the top five of the tournament and shot a 290-295=585 (+9) to hold a 15-stroke lead over Mount Olive.
Freshman Richard Mansell (Staffordshire, England) holds the individual lead by two strokes. He shot a 4-under par 68 in the opening round followed by a 75, with his 1-under par 143 sitting alone in the lead.
Teammate Tommy Hurst (Miami, Fla.) is in a three-way tie for second place after an even par 72 in the opening round and a 1-over par 73 in the second round.
Just one stroke behind him is Ryan Wilkinson (Gallivants Ferry, S.C.) with a 2-over par 146, alone in fifth place. Dixon Walker (Lexington, S.C.) is in 17th place with a 7-over par 151 and Nick Lussier (Barton, Vt.) is in 59th at 160 (+16). Competing as an individual, Ewen Donaldson (Edinburgh, Scotland) is tied for 33rd at 154 (+10).
Newberry will look to carry the commanding lead through Tuesday's final round. The tournament is Newberry's regular season finale.
