Wolves sixth against strong field after second round of Bearcat Classic

NINETY SIX - The Newberry Wolves shot a 19-over par 595 over two rounds and sit in sixth after day one of the Bearcat Golf Classic at The Patriot Golf Club at Grand Harbor on Lake Greenwood on Saturday.

The Wolves' 284 in the opening round is the first round under par for the scarlet and gray since the 2012 fall Myrtle Beach Intercollegiate and the best round of the season. Newberry has a two-stroke lead over Erskine and sit 12 strokes behind first-place Georgia College.

Richard Mansell (Staffordshire, England) is tied for fourth after shooting even par on day one. Mansell finds himself six strokes behind individual leader Fredrik Lindblom of Clayton State.

Ryan Wilkinson (Gallivants Ferry, S.C.) is five strokes back of Mansell in a tie for 19th place, while Dixon Walker (Lexington, S.C.) sits a stroke behind Wilkinson and is tied for 27th among the tournament field.

Tommy Hurst (Miami, Fla.) shot an 80 in the second round after an even par opening round. At eight-over par, Hurst is tied for 40th. John Paul Ferguson (Travelers Rest, S.C.) is alone at 84th with a score of 163 over 36 holes.

Newberry plays 18 holes Sunday in pursuit of its second straight tournament championship.
