Wolves tied in eighth after one round of Rock Barn Intercollegiate

CONOVER, N.C. - The Newberry College men's golf team shot a 318 in Monday's opening round of the Rock Barn Intercollegiate to sit in a tie for eighth place.

The Wolves are tied with Belmont Abbey and were led by two players who shot the same score. Tommy Hurst (Miami, Fla.) and John Paul Ferguson (Travelers Rest, S.C.) both shot a 5-over par 77 in Monday's round.

Other Newberry scores on the par 72, 7,027-yard course were Layton Truax (Savannah, Ga.) in a tie for 44th with a 9-over par 81, Zack Sherman (Newberry, S.C.) in a tie for 51st with an 11-over par 83 in his first collegiate round and Ryan Wilkinson (Gallivants Ferry, S.C.) in a tie for 54th with a 12-over par 84.

Queens leads the tournament with a 7-over par 295 Monday. Play concludes in Newberry's final fall event with 18 holes Tuesday.
