Wolves in 17th in packed field at Myrtle Beach Intercollegiate

SUNSET BEACH, N.C. - The Newberry Wolves sit in 17th place in a huge field after the first round at the Lenoir-Rhyne Myrtle Beach Intercollegiate on Monday.

The Wolves shot a 16-over par 304 in the first round, ahead of perennial regional contender UNC Pembroke.

Ryan Wilkinson (Gallivants Ferry, S.C.) was the Wolves' leader Monday with a 1-over par 73 to sit in a tie for 28th place.

Tommy Hurst (Miami, Fla.) and Ewen Donaldson (Edinburgh, Scotland) are tied for 57th with matching 4-over par 76s.

John Paul Ferguson (Travelers Rest, S.C.) is tied for 80th with a 7-over par 79 and Dixon Walker (Lexington, S.C.) shot an 8-over par 80 to sit in a tie for 87th.

The Wolves will wrap up play in their third tournament of the fall with 18 holes Tuesday. The field is tightly packed with only 16 strokes separating fifth place from 18th place.
